A Step Towards Sustainability!
HT overhead lines from Renewable Energy Parks to Sub-stations, spanning several kilometers, pass through forest and dense vegetation.
A vegetation-free corridor to provide safety clearances in line with IS standards and IE rules is termed as easement or right of way (RoW) for transmission line infrastructure. Width of such a ROW corridor depends on the HT/EHT voltage level and ranges from 15 to 67 meters.
Over the operating life of 25 years, growth of vegetation, radius of falling trees, and increased swing of conductor impose the risk of encroachment overruling the needed safety clearances. This can cause sparks leading to fire, endangering the Infrastructure and Ecology…!
How do you assess such a risk of fire? And how important is this for Sustainability?
@DroneMaster– a POWER Group company conducted Fire Risk Analysis (FRA) for a Canadian RE conglomerate. A drone-aided thermal+optical aerial survey over 75+ circuit kilometers to assess HT line clearances, vegetation in proximity, as well as the technical health condition of conductors, insulators, and poles was undertaken using @DroneMaster’s AI-based 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘄™ platform.
Measurement of vertical and horizontal clearances, detection of vegetation type and its calorific value to determine flammability; added with a thermal inspection of HT line components provides an eye-opening fire risk overview. An orthomosaic map duly annotated with a fire risk matrix reveals the severity, urgency, and sequence to act.
The Fire Risk Analysis (FRA) helps the RE Asset Owners to understand fire risks, evolve mitigation strategies and implement actions to ensure Safety, Ecological preservation, and take a true step towards Sustainability…!
